Winter Break Total Fitness Challenge

Today, February 22nd, Assemblyman Michael Cusick (D-Mid-Island) hosted a Track and Field Activity Day at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The event looked to encourage kids to stay active during the winter school break through physical exercise. Total Fitness Challenge attendees were able to learn and participate in various track and field skills such as techniques for long jumps, hurdles, high jumps, shot put, and relay racing skills. There were 28 children ranging from grades Kindergarten and 8th grade in attendance.

Flag Football Team Honored For Patriotism

Castorina Honors Patriotic Flag Football Team After the Pittsburg Steelers did not come out of the locker room during the playing of the National Anthem two Sundays ago, a local 9-11 Memorial Flag Football team decided to lay down their jerseys and change their team name. The team, formerly named the Steelers, laid down their jerseys in a pre-game ceremony this past Sunday. They wore temporary jerseys reading “God Bless America” on the front and “Respect, Unity, Honor, Duty” on the back. The team has changed their name from the Steelers to West Point to honor the brave men and women who fight for this county.

Tennis Courts Reopen At Skyline Playground After $303K Renovation

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, yesterday joined Council Member Debi Rose, Staten Island Deputy Borough President Ed Burke and community members to cut the ribbon on newly renovated tennis courts at Skyline Playground. Funding for this project was provided by Mayor Bill de Blasio in the amount of $303,000.

On Thursday, August 17th, Assemblyman Michael Cusick (D – Mid-Island) hosted a Football Activity Day at Wagner College for Staten Island students from K through 8th grade, at the Wagner College Football Field. The event is part of a summer long program designed to keep students active both physically and academically during school recesses. Started in 2008, the Total Fitness Challenge encourages students to read at least 30 minutes per day and to exercise as much as possible.

Play Ball! (Or, Just Play): Matteo Allocates More Than $1.2 Million For Staten Island Recreational Facilities

The Capital Funding will be Used to Upgrade & Renovate Community Playgrounds, Ballfields and Basketball Courts, Purchase New Equipment Minority Leader Steven Matteo has allocated more than $1.2 million in Fiscal Year 2018 to upgrade and renovate public recreational facilities on Staten Island, he announced today. The funds, which are part of the Minority Leader’s capital budget, will be used to rebuild playgrounds, basketball courts and baseball fields and purchase new recreational equipment at community playgrounds across the Mid-Island.
