Senator Lanza is partnering with the Project Renewal Scan Van to host free mammography screenings and clinical breast exams to women across Staten Island. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women in New York State and until the cause and cure is found, the best tool in the fight against breast cancer is education and early detection.
A mammogram can detect breast cancer almost 24 months before it can be manually detected, facilitating earlier diagnosis and treatment, which increases the chance of survival. In the 2018-2019 State budget, Senator Lanza was able to secure an additional $5 million in new funding which has been allocated to further support ongoing women’s health initiatives such as breast cancer prevention, education, and support.
The Scan Van will be located at Senator Lanza’s District Office and at the Staten Island Mall.
